During the admission process you will also discuss the formalities of your discharge. Your case manager will assist you with necessary departure formalities and arrange any follow-up appointments at UKE. After discharge you may also request a medical report in English or Russian.
UKE is a full service university hospital, offering more than 80 interdisciplinary clinics.
International Patient Service
Every bed has its own entertainment console, with which you can watch TV, listen to the radio, and receive phone calls free of charge. For a fee you can also make telephone calls and surf the Internet. You may use your mobile/cell phone in the room.

Handling of international enquiries
Hospital bills and third party invoices (e.g., for drugs and supplies) are compiled by your case manager. Approximately three months after your departure UKE will send you your closing statement, including all invoices pertaining to your stay. Any credits to your account will be refunded.
Centres of excellence include Hepatobiliary and Transplant, Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine, Pancreas, Obesity, Oncology, Prostate Cancer, Voice, Speech and Hearing, Heart, Spine, the Children's and Women's Centres and the Medical Prevention Centre.
UKE will provide you with a rough cost estimate when they receive your enquiry. If you wish to proceed further, the team will pass your enquiry to the specialists to prepare a treatment plan and a more detailed estimate of costs.

Treatment dates, visas and flexible/discounted flights
The International Office will arrange all appointments at UKE facilities and will provide you with an invitation, if you require this to obtain a visa. Since the invitation must confirm that treatment costs are covered, this can only be issued after receipt of payment.
The team can arrange hotel accommodation and airport transfers. UKE works in associationn with Lufthansa to allow you discounted and flexible air fares when travelling to Germany for treatment. Click the Lufthansa box (right) for details.
Your stay in Hamburg
Your personal case manager will handle your admission to the hospital and be your contact for all administrative and organisational matters during your time at UKE.
Interpreters are available for all medical conversations. UKE interpreters are specially trained for medical interpreting and the hospital cannot permit translation by your own interpreters or relatives.
If you would like to make use of non-medical services, unrelated to your treatment, UKE will arrange a personal assistant. This service is offered by an external partner at an additional cost and will be directly billed by this partner.
UKE offers single and double rooms only, all with a private bathroom. There are no no multi-bed rooms in the entire hospital.
Meals
UKE serves four daily meals: breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee and dinner. A server will visit you with a food cart at breakfast and dinner and you can decide at each meal what you would like to eat.
You choose your lunch from a menu with over 20 different items, including vegetarian dishes, whole foods and light whole food dishes. UKE will accommodate any special dietary needs, due to your cultural or religious background.
Religion
UKE has an interdenominational prayer room for worship services. Regular services are offered and a separate prayer room is available for Muslim patients.
One accompanying person can stay with you in your room, subject to a charge and depending on availability.
